Summer Camp
at Modern Martial Arts
Summer Camp Adventures Await You!
Time off from school doesn't have to mean time wasted. Let us engage your child with fun-filled camp days of martial arts games, creative crafts, and exciting NYC field trips.
From the experienced martial artist to the kid just discovering her inner warrior, our program welcomes students of all levels. Through martial arts techniques, students will build confidence, improve gross motor skills, enhance their focus and ability to follow directions, and learn how to maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity.
Our mission is to teach practical self-defense skills through fun-filled activities, allowing students to leave our camp empowered with the discovery of their maximum potential.
An Unforgettable Experience!
-
Martial Arts Classes
Students participate in two classes daily with our top-rated black belt instructors, placing an emphasis on common sense before self-defense. Kids will develop skills at an accelerated rate and perform in demonstrations for the parents throughout the summer.
-
Weapons Training
Classes include instruction in the art of weapons, including Japanese sword fighting, nunchucks, and bo staff dueling using safe, padded weapons with non-contact drills
-
Arts & Crafts
We're putting the "art" in martial artist! Past creative activities have included tie-dying t-shirts, lego building, ninja mask design, perler bead projects, origami, and make-your-own slime.

Our day camps are beginner-friendly and provide an introduction to martial arts. We know not every kid is necessarily interested in martial arts, and that's okay! Our summer camps are high-energy, active events that focus on fun above all else. In addition to two martial arts classes per day, campers will spend their afternoons in the park and go on weekly field trips!
We've been running our summer camp for over 20 years, and our instructors are seasoned professionals. They will cater the activities to what the kids are responding to. If the campers don't seem like they're digging a particular game? No problem, we can read the room and will move on to the next game!

Campers should come prepared each day with a red MMA t-shirt (shirts provided on their first day), comfortable walking shoes, and a nut-free packed lunch. We will provide snacks.
We also ask parents to apply sunscreen in the morning before drop-off. We will reapply in the afternoon.
Any medications or medical devices (such as epi-pens or inhalers) must be labeled with your child’s name and handed directly to a camp counselor at drop-off. We do this so the counselors know where these items are at all times and can respond quickly in an emergency.

Some field trips require public transit to get to Manhattan destinations. When public transit is necessary, we prioritize buses over the subway when possible. And parents are always informed in advance when public transit is on the itinerary, allowing us ample time to try to find alternative accommodations if you are not comfortable with your child taking public transit without you.
When taking public transit, we add additional counselors and assign groups to keep a ratio of no more than 3-5 kids per counselor.
And if you have ever met the Modern Martial Arts black belt instructors, you’ll understand when we say that your child is in extremely safe hands with them.

We keep all the kids together. For weeks when there is a spread of campers as young as 5 and as old as 12, we give the older campers a little bit more responsibility and count on them to act as role models for the younger campers. Time and time again, they impress us with the care they show for the younger campers.
We also have junior camp counselors between the ages of 13-16 who assist throughout the summer, and they tend to take the older campers under their wings.
So if you're worried about your child being the youngest/oldest camper or feeling out of place, you shouldn't! We know it may seem strange having all the age groups together, but we find that it actually works really well for each age group to have an older age group to model their behavior after.

We do not offer refunds on camp purchases. We base our summer staffing on our anticipated camp sizes, and we offer discounts to families who are able to commit early — because of that, there are no refunds on camp.
That said, we try to keep Modern Martial Arts summer camp a flexible, stress-free experience. You do not have to select your dates when purchasing camp weeks. We’ll reach out in late May or early June to start securing your child’s dates if you have not already confirmed them.
Need to change your dates? No problem, we just ask for 7 days’ notice to change camp reservations so we can make necessary staffing/itinerary changes. A lot of planning goes into our summer camp, and we want each day of camp to be a magical experience for your kid!
